LOVIN LOLA....

Lola and the Boy Next Door
Stephanie Perkins
Released September 29, 2011
338 Pages
Dutton Publishers

Budding designer Lola Nolan doesn’t believe in fashion . . . she believes in costume. The more expressive the outfit -- more sparkly, more fun, more wild -- the better. But even though Lola’s style is outrageous, she’s a devoted daughter and friend with some big plans for the future. And everything is pretty perfect (right down to her hot rocker boyfriend) until the dreaded Bell twins, Calliope and Cricket, return to the neighborhood.
When Cricket -- a gifted inventor -- steps out from his twin sister’s shadow and back into Lola’s life, she must finally reconcile a lifetime of feelings for the boy next door.

If I am being completely honest....I didn't have the same stupid smile pasted across my face after finishing Lola and the Boy Next Door as I did after finishing Anna and the French Kiss, BUT it was two in the morning and I was pretty tired....

Another BUT...I did really enjoy the story...the characters, Lola and Cricket, and the realness of the story.  I really liked Lola as our heroine.  She was cool, creative and someone that I would definitely have been friends with in High School.  She dated older bad boys, uh HELLO..we have all made that mistake before and she had fallen for a boy who knew her so well that he was able to break her heart so completely.  And Cricket...what a freakn cutie pie.....and when he tells her how he feels about her....I think I swooned right with Ms. Lola.

I have to say, I liked Max....but I always fell for the bad boys too....the one's that you don't realize are complete assholes until you finally see that they are COMPLETE ASSHOLES.  He wasn't bad for her, but he just wasn't right for her.  I loved how Stephanie showed this to us without having to make him into a bad person....sometimes two people just aren't meant to be.

I would recommend reading Anna and the French Kiss first, not that you have to, but when Lola and St. Clair have a heart to heart about things...you will understand what he is talking about if you read his book first.

Stephanie gives us another YA romance that has real characters, real situations and real emotion.  I love her writing style and will continue to pine for her next release over and over.  xoxo

THROWBACK THURSDAY

Ok....I am hooked.  I finally decided to pick up the first book in the In Death Series after hearing so much about Eve and Roarke...and after I got past all the confusion and distraction with it taking place in 2058, I really loved it....Eve and Roarke have sucked me into their world and I want to know more, I want to know everything.  I love their interactions, the chemistry between them and how much he loves her....Now I understand why they have Roarke Fan Clubs.  So if you have a few weekends free...get started on The In Death Series by J.D. Robb (Nora Roberts) and fall in love!!

Here is the novel that started it all-the first book in J. D. Robb's number-one New York Times-bestselling In Death series, featuring New York City homicide detective Lieutenant Eve Dallas and Roarke.

It is the year 2058, and technology now completely rules the world. But New York City Detective Eve Dallas knows that the irresistible impulses of the human heart are still ruled by just one thing-passion.

When a senator's daughter is killed, the secret life of prostitution she'd been leading is revealed. The high-profile case takes Lieutenant Eve Dallas into the rarefied circles of Washing-ton politics and society. Further complicating matters is Eve's growing attraction to Roarke, who is one of the wealthiest and most influential men on the planet, devilishly handsome . . . and the leading suspect in the investigation.

It is 2058, New York City. In a world where technology can reveal the darkest of secrets, there's only one place to hide a crime of passion-in the heart.

Even in the mid-twenty-first century, during a time when genetic testing usually weeds out any violent hereditary traits before they can take over, murder still happens. The first victim is found lying on a sidewalk in the rain. The second is murdered in her own apartment building. Police Lieutenant Eve Dallas has no problem finding connections between the two crimes. Both victims were beautiful and highly successful women. Their glamorous lives and loves were the talk of the city. And their intimate relations with men of great power and wealth provide Eve with a long list of suspects-including her own lover, Roarke

Virgin River Christmas

Bring Me Home For Christmas
Robyn Carr
Released September 27, 2011
Harlequin

This year, Becca Timm knows the number one item on her Christmas wish list—getting over Denny Cutler. Three years ago, Denny broke her heart before heading off to war. It's time she got over her silly high-school relationship and moved on.

So she takes matters into her own hands and heads up to Virgin River, the rugged little mountain town that Denny calls home, as an uninvited guest on her brother's men-only hunting weekend. But when an accident turns her impromptu visit into an extended stay, Becca finds herself stranded in Virgin River. With Denny. In very close quarters.

As the power of Christmas envelops the little town, Becca discovers that the boy she once loved has become a strong and confident man. And the most delicious Christmas present she can imagine.

If you have ever read an of the other Virgin River Series you will understand when I say that it was very much like the others. Robyn writes about a wonderful town with friends that are more like family, where everyone helps their neighbors in need. I remember enjoying the first few in the series and then they started to feel repetitive, which this one was, but I did enjoy seeing all my old friends again.

Becca forced herself on a hunting trip to Virgin River with her brother and a few other former Marines, one being Denny, her ex. Their break up wasn't mutual and she ended up hurt and confused for a long time. Now she is about to be engaged to someone else but needs the closure with Denny before she makes what might be a big mistake.

I have to say I like Becca as a heroine, she was funny, sarcastic and friendly. Who hasn't been in her boat, not knowing if you are marrying the wrong person. On the other hand...I didn't love Denny. He was handsome and caring, but at times the things he said were kind of cheesy for a twenty five year old former Marine.

All in all, I liked the book. Everytime I read a Virgin River book I feel as though I have come home for a visit. I get to hang out with my old friends and meet some new ones.

Nate, Ian and Ben On My Mind

Georgia On My Mind
Marie Force
E-Book
Released September 22, 2011

Since Georgie Quinn’s mother died after a brief battle with breast cancer, the highlight of her life has become “jogger stalking” every morning with her roommates Tess and Cat. Stuck running the senior center her mother founded in Newport, RI, until a replacement director is found, Georgie dreams of returning to her glamorous life in Atlanta. As that life begins to unravel, she discovers a whole new one in Newport where the jogger turns out to be sexy detective and tree hugger Nathan Caldwell. Determined to get her mind off her many problems—including a possible threat to her own health—Georgie indulges in what she intends to be a no-holds-barred one-night stand with Nathan. Unfortunately, Nathan has other ideas and sets out to have a relationship with her. Tess, on the run from an abusive husband, and Cat, who raised her younger brother and sister, hook up with Nathan’s brothers, Ben, an injured Iraqi war veteran, and Ian, a single-father and talented musician. Add a zany cast of seniors who seem determined to drive Georgie slowly mad with their never-ending needs and comparisons to her sainted mother, and you’ve got the ingredients for a fast-paced, often comical, emotional journey that leads Georgie straight to the home of her heart.

It was like reading three wonderful love stories all mixed into one.

Marie Force has done it again, bringing her usual warmth, fun, flirty females and sexy, love at first sight Heroes.  Ian, Ben and Nathan...I can't pick just one....I really have a soft spot for all of my guys...a single father, a broken veteran and a sexy Detective, who always says the right things...HARD CHOICE!!

And the heroines are just as much fun and have all captured my heart in different ways...Georgie is our main girl, who likes lusting after jogger guy, but doesn't want to hurt him once they become involved.....but when his kisses are that good....how can she resist.  I really loved Cat...my bad ass Catherine, who just wanted to have a little fun....but her heart rules stronger than her head....and sometimes what you think you don't need might be exactly what is right in front of you.  And Tess...sweet Tess....or sassy, dirty minded Tess.....I really loved them all and I loved her and Ben together...their chemistry, their conversations, their kisses and romance....I was so happy that they found each other.

Well, I loved Georgia On My Mind and I know you will too.....so download it now!  Only $3.99!!

Laura Griffin Does It Again!

Snapped
Laura Griffin
Released Aug 30th, 2011
400 Pages
Pocket Star Books

SOPHIE BARRETT THINKS SHE’S LUCKY TO BE ALIVE. SHE MAY BE DEAD WRONG.

On a sweltering summer afternoon, Sophie Barrett walks into a nightmare. A sniper has opened fire on a college campus. When the carnage is over, three people—plus the shooter—are dead and dozens more are injured. Sophie escapes virtually unscathed. Yet as details emerge from the investigation, she becomes convinced that this wasn’t the random, senseless act it appeared to be. No one wants to believe her—not the cops, not her colleagues at the Delphi Center crime lab, and definitely not Jonah Macon, the homicide detective who’s already saved her life once.

Jonah has all kinds of reasons for hoping Sophie is mistaken. Involving himself with a key witness could derail an already messy investigation, not to mention jeopardize his career. But Sophie is as determined and fearless as she is sexy. If he can’t resist her, he can at least swear to protect her. Because if Sophie is right, she’s made herself the target of a killer without a conscience. And the real terror is only just beginning. . .

Laura Griffin keeps bringing the heat and I am loving it!  The Tracer Series started out with a huge bang and they continue to be action packed, leaving you on the seat of your pants, never knowing where the story might take you!

Loved Sophie from Untraceable and was so happy to see her as the heroine of Snapped.  The chemistry between her and Jonah sizzled in Unforgivable, and Snapped just brought the heat!  I love a kick ass, I don't need anyone Heroine who meets the one guy, Jonah Macon....yummy...., who can get under her skin and make her feel vulnerable.  And Officer Macon is having his own trouble trying to keep his mind on his investigation and not on the beautiful woman who he is trying to protect.

Laura again writes a story so descriptive, that you feel as though you are being transported right to where the action is happening.  I love this series and I love all of her books, especially Thread of Fear.  Was thrilled to see a cameo from Fiona in Snapped....love the cankles comment....and was thrilled to see her and Jack were doing well.

Next up is Twisted starring our own Officer Doyle....should be a good one!!

Anna and the French Kiss
Stephanie Perkins
Released December 2nd, 2010
372 pages
Dutton Books

What a great book!!  This book left me feeling so.....HAPPY!

I wanted things to work out, but I am glad that it wasn't so easy...because sometimes life isn't easy....Stephanie wrote an Amazing story of a super cool girl, living in a strange land, falling in love with someone who she shouldn't be in love with...and he might just be in love with her too.....if not for that pesky Girlfriend he has..(of course).  Ellie...just her name pisses me off...hahaha

Anna (Banana Elephant) was such a cool girl, I liked her from page one...she was nice, sweet and a good friend...someone I would definitely consider a friend.  Etienne St. Clair...what can I say about you my love....he was just such a real person, so kind and funny, how could you not see all the wonderful qualities in him that Anna saw.

I loved the chemistry between them...all that sexual tension and floating hormones.....and the mistaken words, the accidental touches, the jealous glances and everything else!!  I loved it!!
The secondary characters were so much fun also.  Mer, Rash and Josh made for some entertaining scenes and crazy messes!  I just loved it and I am ready for Lola....Stephanie Perkins...you are awesome!!

Deputy and the Sheriff's Daughter

The Sheriff's Daughter
Kay Stockham
Released Sept 6th, 2011
288 Pages
Harlequin

Town Deputy + Sheriff's Daughter = Secret Romance

In Kay Stockham's New Release, Liam McKenna, Town Deputy is given an assignment to keep an eye on the Sheriff's daughter Carly, while the Sheriff is away. Keeping his eyes on her isn't going to be the problem, its keeping his hands OFF of her that might get in the way. But this quick fling quickly turns out to be more than Liam, a quiet guy with past secrets that keep getting in the way of his happiness. Carly wants things with Liam that he doesn't think that he can give her, so where will that leave them when the Sheriff gets back into town?

The Sheriff's Daughter is a sweet story that shines on why it is important to help others in finding the love that they might never have encountered, and to taking a chance because you never know what kind of blessing is waiting for you just around the corner.

I enjoyed the budding romance between Liam and Carly, and how the author brings the past in slowly, building up to the action, or when things fall apart. She writes a sweet story about the romance but also hits on some serious issues and how sometimes all it takes is a little LOVE and a healthy home.

Really good read!

Don't forget to keep an eye out for the next two installments in the North Star, MT series, In the Ranchers Footsteps featuring Liam's brother Brad and Christmas in Montana with Chance.

FOOL'S GOLD RETURNS...

Only His
Susan Mallery
Released On Sept 27th, 2011
384 Pages
HQN

As a lover of all Susan Mallery I have read all of her books, and I love the Fool's Gold series. I was so excited for Nevada book after reading both of her sisters love stories, but I just didn't love this one as much as I did the other two.
The relationship between Tucker and Nevada was some what overshadowed by the romance between Denise and Max and then with Will and Jo. The other romances were also thrown together and grew very quickly....I just felt as if I missed out on so much.
Also, we were introduced to Heidi, Annabelle and Charlie, who I felt were also kind of thrown into the story to prepare us for the next installment.
And having Cat jump into the story with all her craziness was not needed. She never explained why she fooled them into sleeping together ten years ago. I never got all my answers about that night and it was almost just forgotten about.
I enjoyed the book....I liked catching up with all of our old Fool's Gold friends... but the whole book felt rushed.... The main love story just got lost in the shuffle and then re-appeared for the last few pages.
I am still very much looking forward to the Christmas Novella and the next three Fool's Gold books coming out next Summer....So keep up the amazing stories Susan....I still love you!

THROWBACK THURSDAYS

Since the movie version of Something Borrowed by Emily Giffin has just been released on DVD, I am recommending the book to all of you have yet to read this funny, heartbreaking Romance.

Rachel White is the consummate good girl. A hard-working attorney at a large Manhattan law firm and a diligent maid of honor to her charmed best friend Darcy, Rachel has always played by all the rules. Since grade school, she has watched Darcy shine, quietly accepting the sidekick role in their lopsided friendship. But that suddenly changes the night of her thirtieth birthday when Rachel finally confesses her feelings to Darcy's fiance, and is both horrified and thrilled to discover that he feels the same way. As the wedding date draws near, events spiral out of control, and Rachel knows she must make a choice between her heart and conscience. In so doing, she discovers that the lines between right and wrong can be blurry, endings aren't always neat, and sometimes you have to risk everything to be true to yourself.

When I was first given Something Borrowed/Something Blue by a co-worker to read they sat on my nightstand for about a month until I finally gave them back to her, explaining that they just didn't seem like my type of books.  BOY WAS I WRONG!!

A few years later, they came up again in conversation with my husband's Aunt and Mother telling me I HAD TO READ THESE BOOKS!  I think I devoured Something Borrowed in a few hours.  Then I ran out to Target to purchase the set so that I would have my very own copies.

Rachel pulls you in to the madness that is her life at the current moment, the roller coaster of life, the ups and downs that is her life.  And Dex....oh I love my charming, handsome Dex, but I did want to smack him upside the head a few times.

I am not normally a huge fan of books that have cheating characters, but the direction in which Emily takes the story and with all of the back story....you can almost understand that sometimes you can't just turn off your feelings or stop yourself from loving someone that is probably the last person you should have feelings for.

I have to say that Something Borrowed has become one of my absolute favorite books and I am so glad that I finally gave it a chance.....Just goes to show you that 'You can't judge a book by it's cover'.

Upcoming Release....

Something So Right
Elyse Mady
Releasing Sept 19, 2011
Carina Press
E-Book

Something So Right follows Lily and her best friend, Sam on a road that some of us may have traveled in life....The 'Can we go back to being best friends after we have slept together' dilemma. Elyse Mady has done a nice job coming up with a story filled with some very hot sex scenes and some very heart-breaking, 'I wish I could take back what I just said' Arguments.

Lily and Sam are both coming from different places and are looking at a new relationship with different views. Lily is still recovering from a horrible break up from a few years back and she is looking for some hot bedroom action Only, and Sam, oh Sam...he is looking for a the forever kind of love with the girl that he has been head over heels for since he was fourteen.

Something So Right is a sweet look at what can happen when two friends take their relationship to the next level and the bumps and hills they follow along the way!!

My Only Fear.....I didn't love it!

Only Fear
Anne Marie Becker
Released Sept 5th, 2011
Kindle Edition

After a violent incident with a patient leaves scars on both her mind and body, psychiatrist Dr. Maggie Levine craves isolation. A radio talk show host seems to be the perfect profession, a job where she can help people from a distance while staying safe. When a strange caller begins stalking her on the air and murdering people to get her attention, Maggie realizes she can no longer close herself off from the outside world.

A personal security expert, former Secret Service Agent Ethan Townsend is no stranger to tracking down the most violent monsters of society and bringing them to justice. Still, it will take all of Ethan's skills to protect his new assignment, the irresistible Maggie, from a man intent on teaching her the ultimate lesson in fear….

Only Fear started out good with a psycho caller on a radio talk show and the break in of Maggie's apartment, and I was digging Ethan was the hero....hottie agent with a chip on his shoulder. But then it just kind of went down hill from there. The action didn't keep my interest and once "OWEN" got involved with Deborah my brain kind of just stopped paying attention.

The writing was very descriptive and the author had a very cool plot, but my interest was lost. I normally like a thriller with great chemistry between the two main characters, Ethan and Maggie did have a fast connection and a lot of touches/kisses, but it almost felt rushed.

Since I am not the biggest Suspense Romance reader, my opinion could be off, and some people might really connect with the characters, but it just wasn't my cup of tea!!

Throwback Thursday Presents...

Falling for Gracie
Susan Mallery
Released March 1, 2005
384 Pages
HQN

First comes love, then comes marriage. . .

Or that was Gracie's plan, anyway, at the ripe old age of fourteen. She loved eighteen-year-old heartthrob Riley with a desperation that made her a town legend. Even now that she's all grown up, the locals in sleepy Los Lobos won't let her forget her youthful crush.

. . .but it's not as easy as it looks.

And how can she, when she's face-to-face with Riley at every turn? The onetime bad boy has come back to town seeking respectability-but the sparks that fly between them are anything but respectable! Gracie's determined to keep her distance, but when someone sets out to ruin both their reputations, the two discover that first love is sometimes better the second time around.

Falling for Gracie is one of my absolute favorites by Susan Mallery. It is actually the second in the Los Lobos Series, the first being Someone Like You. Gracie is the kind of heroine that you immediately feel a connection with. She is smart, funny, hard-working and very much misunderstood. Especially by Riley Whitefield, who you couldn't have paid to have been in the same room with her years ago. But the more that he gets to know the REAL Gracie, he sees that he never really gave her the benefit of the doubt, even if she did put a live skunk in his car as a teenager to stop him from going on a date with another girl!!

The book is laugh out loud funny, romantic and just plain fun!! Pick it up today, or grab it from the Library, but just read it!! You won't be disappointed.

Lies or True Love??

Just a Little White Lie
Lynette Hallberg
Released Sept 12, 2011
Carina Press

Lucinda Darling thinks she's ready to get married.

Even though Donald doesn't give her butterflies, the heiress is ready to make her marriage work. She's got the dress, she's at the church and her fiancé...is making out with his ex. So Lucinda stuffs her tulle skirts into her tiny sports car and hits the road...only to have her car break down.

Jake Parker knows he's not ready to settle down.

But Grandma Hattie is sick, so, to make her happy, he's returning home to find himself a fake fiancée. When Jake rescues Lucy from the side of the highway, she goes from runaway bride to temporary fiancée.

Lucy hopes to escape the public eye in small-town Georgia, but she doesn't expect to fall for Jake's charming hometown, let alone Jake himself. Soon Jake and Lucy both start to wish their lie were true. But Lucy knows she must stop their pretense before Jake's family-and her heart-are hurt so badly they'll never recover.

What a sweet, heartwarming story.  Lucinda is my kind of girl....leave a cheatin man and take off on the back of a motorcycle with a very sexy stranger...Jake....who doesn't love a hometown boy who loves his mama and grandmama.

The premise could have had more information when it came to the secondary stories that had been thrown into the book.   I would have loved to see Zane and Birdie have their own book instead of being squeezed into this one, leaving us quite confused as to what really happened.

The book ended a bit abrupt with her father agreeing to her terms, and then his father changing his mind about things.  I don't want to give too much away.....but the ending felt a little rushed to me.

But all in all I liked it, the crazy prediciment Jake and Lucinda find temselves in if a little far fetched, but is written in a way that you find believeable. And the cast of characters were a funny bunch!

Definetely a cute read for a rainy Sunday afternoon !

SEXY SULLIVANS STRIKE AGAIN

From This Moment On
Bella Andre
Released Aug 30, 2011
E-Book

From This Moment On.....I officially LOVE Marcus Sullivan...ok I would take any of the other six brothers, but right now I am loving Marcus.

Nico/Nicola is a pop star who figures if everyone thinks she is a wild party girl she might as well use the image to have a little fun....and she finds exactly the perfect man....Marcus, who is also looking to forget his cheating ex, and leave the club with a beautiful, sexy stranger.  What will happen between these two lonely people when they discover that the feelings they have for each other are a little too close to LOVE....

Nico and Marcus sure do know how to heat up the bedroom and their chemistry is off the charts HOTT!!  I really enjoyed the flow of their relationship from just a 'One Night Stand' to becoming so wrapped up in each other they were all the other could think about.  Their feelings were so real, almost like Fate stepped in and made sure they were both at the right place and the right time!!

Really, really enjoyed the second installment of The Sullivan's Series....Can't wait for Hottie Fireman Gabe's story, Can't Help Falling In Love!!
