Tasty Review Tour: The Earl in My Bed by Sophie Jordan, #AvonRomance @Tastybooktours

Intended for one man…

All her life, everyone assumed Paget Ellsworth, the vicar’s daughter, would marry the Earl of Winningham’s youngest son. And when he left for war with his older brother, Jamie, words and promises were not necessary. She would wait.

But destined for another…

Four years pass, and the death of his father forces Jamie home to take up the reins as the new earl, leaving his brother fighting on the front lines a world away. Maddening, infuriating, sexy Jamie makes Paget question her feelings. One glimpse, one word from him awakens desire in her heart. When a simple kiss spirals out of control at the annual Valentine’s Day ball, she realizes the man she never wanted is the man she needs…but will Paget cast aside all she’s ever thought to be true to win the man of her dreams?

My tenure as an Avon Addict, and now Avon Alum, has exposed me to so many new authors whom I have come to love. Sophie Jordan is one of them.

I really enjoyed "Lessons From A Scandalous Bride," so when I received the eARC from Avon for this book, I knew I'd like it, too. And I wasn't wrong. My only complaint, as with all novellas by my favorite authors: it was too short, of course!

Paget grew up in a close friendship with Brand, heir to the Earl of Winningham, and Owen, his half brother. Jamie is the younger full brother and never quite fits in with their little group (and let me just say here that thanks to Outlander, every single time there's a Jamie in a book, I know I'm going to love it). War breaks out, and Jamie and Owen go off to fight, leaving Paget and Brand to wait for their return. It has long been assumed that Paget and Owen will marry then, though they have no formal arrangement.

Unfortunately, Brand and the Earl both pass away, and Jamie returns home to assume the Earl's title. The story is a slight twist on the classic love triangle: Paget still despises Jamie. He has always emphasized their class difference, and brought out the worst in her when they were young. Now that he is home, they revert to their old, antagonistic relationship at the beginning, but suddenly there's an electricity between them.

It seems everyone assumes Paget to be engaged to Owen, though as it turns out, she isn't quite so sure it's what she wants-- or even what Owen wants, anymore. But Jamie informs her the only thing keeping Owen alive in India is the dream of returning home to her. For Owen's sake, and for propriety's sake (on which her father's living depends), she needs to suppress her dreams of a passion-filled life and plan to marry Owen when he comes home. And for the same reasons, Jamie must ignore his own desire for her.

What I love about this is that Paget is not choosing between a Good Guy and a Bad Guy. That's the easy way out, I think: when one man turns out to be a murderer, or a stalker, or in some way truly unfit to be loved. I think that's why I love the movie Sweet Home Alabama-- you don't hate Patrick Dempsey's character. He's just...not the right one.

Speaking of which, wouldn't you like to see a sequel-- his HEA? Returning to The Earl in My Bed (and wouldn't THAT be amazing?), it's the RIGHT ending, a feel-good ending, and that's what it's all about.  Paget must choose between two good men, allowing love to prevail above all else, including loyalty, duty, and friendship.

I definitely recommend picking up this novella for a quick, passionate story. And (spoiler alert!) I look forward to reading more about Owen in the next book.

Guest Post with Karina Cooper: ONE FOR THE WICKED Releases April 30th @avonromance #avonaddict

Guest Post with Karina Cooper
Author of the Dark Mission Series

A Tasty Read: Wrapping It Up To Go

The end is always hard. One for the Wicked is the fifth and final book in the Dark Mission series—eighth, if you count the three novellas, which you totally should!—and it brings together all the loose threads and unanswered questions left dangling over New Seattle.

While this book is very much a personal story for Shawn and Kayleigh, it’s also the last chance we get to see how our previous characters are doing. While the story is as much about revenge and conspiracy and terrible things, it’s also about hope—that fragile light that beckons in the dark.

But even lights in the dark can lead a man astray. We’ll see that, too; how far will people go to save themselves? To save a city?

I really enjoyed writing the ending for the Dark Mission series. On the one hand, it’s definitely sad—I mean, I’m saying goodbye to this world, to these characters I’ve come to know and love (and occasionally want to slap), is bittersweet. I started this series with Silas and Jessie, and they’ve been in every book since in some capacity or another. We’ve seen conspiracies unfold, some get solved only to find out how deep the rabbit holes go.

What I loved best, though, was the chance to check in with familiar faces again. Remember Silas and Jessie in Blood of the Wicked? Silas was suddenly a fish out of water and Jessie couldn’t stop an ingrained habit of lying to protect herself—and others. Or how about Phin and Naomi in Lure of the Wicked? We knew at the end of it that they were going to have a rough go—Phin was stuck topside while Naomi was declared a fugitive, and marked by a bounty large enough to make even a good man look sideways at her.

And then there’s Jonas and Danny. In Wicked Lies, my charity novella out just recently, I’ll be the first to admit that there wasn’t your usual happily ever after resolution. Jonas is too cautious, and Danny far too idealistic and stubborn to let Jonas get way with it. Did you notice? Dying to know what happens with them? One for the Wicked has your resolution.

In fact, it’s got resolution for all of the characters—good and bad, sad and happy, loved and lost. Of everything else? That’s what I loved best about writing this book. The resolution. Revisiting familiar places, and seeing how our couples are getting on—and where they aren’t.

The fact that it’s done, that now I’ve got my plate clear for new projects? That’s another sweet aspect of the “bittersweet” call.

Am I done? With murder and mayhem? Absolutely not!

Up next, I’m stepping out of New Seattle with a fond farewell and returning to Victorian London. With a double-header coming up, we’ll get to look forward to more Cherry St. Croix—beginning with a novella detailing her very first collection.

The Mysterious Case of Mr. Strangeway will be the first St. Croix Chronicles release by Carina Press. I’m so excited to be sharing this story with everyone... and not just because it also reveals the nature of her first real introduction to Micajah Hawke.

Next, the third in the St. Croix Chronicles will be Corroded—the ongoing story of our intrepid heroine as she seeks revenge for a terrible crime committed below London’s sooty-stained drift.

I hope you’ll all come play in this alternate steampunk London. I promise to have lots in store for you!

ONE FOR THE WICKED
A Dark Mission Novel #5
Karina Cooper
Releasing April 30th, 2013

In this thrilling finale to Karina Cooper’s Dark Mission series, New Seattle’s witches will rise again…or fall forever.

Dr. Kayleigh Lauderdale possesses the only cure for what’s killing New Seattle’s witches. Desperate to acquire it, the resistance sends their best agent, but Shawn Lowe has his own agenda and it doesn’t include saving anyone—least of all, the daughter of his sworn enemy. He has to ignore the blistering attraction he feels the instant they meet, can’t give in until he gets what he wants. He just never counted on wanting her…

Kayleigh can’t believe how out of control Shawn makes her feel. He lies to her with one breath and excites her beyond reason the next. A reckless encounter could steal her heart, but the devastating plans of an old enemy may prove too much for either Kayleigh or Shawn to handle. When the world turns upside down, it will take everything they have to hold on… to life, to hope, to each other.

Avon (@avonbooks) will be having a twitter chat on Monday, 4/29, from 3-4PM EST, with Karina Cooper (@KarinaCooper), and we’d love for you to participate!

It will be using hashtag #WickedOne, and we’ll be chatting about all kinds of things—namely, witches!

We’d love it if you shared your favorite witches (from books, movies, TV and beyond), but we’re also keen to hear about your favorite epic endings, favorite moments in the Dark Mission series—and don’t forget, Karina will be answering questions, so please do join us!

Here’s the cherry on top of our paranormal Sundae (err…Monday): anyone who tweets using #WickedOne will be entered to win the Complete Dark Mission series!

ALL OVER THE PLACE is Charming, Sassy and Utterly Romantic.  So many Swoon worthy men, and so little time!

I had such a GREAT time reading this debut Romance from Serena Clarke.  Livi, our heroine, was such a wonderful character, and so relatible, you almost feel as if you are there, among her friends, hanging out, gossiping and watching the drama unfold.

Oh poor Livi, so many men, so little time!  Haha!  If only we ALL had this problem...But...I think she ends up with the Best One of All...I won't divulge this information because you will just have to read the story to find out WHO, but I will say, this certain man captured my heart along the way...and I was overjoyed that Livi FINALLY gets a fairytale ending...especially after all the drama that led her to it.

I loved Livi, and she certainly steals the show, but I will say all the secondary characters, especially Cass and Steve, well I just LOVED them from the moment we meet them.  And Cam, well, I think just his name says it all...swoon...and Ryan Velez....yum...I'll give Serena Clarke huge points for giving these men such sexy names!!

Fans of Jill Mansell will absolutely adore ALL OVER THE PLACE, and I see Serena Clarke making a huge splash with this debut.  I look forward to reading more from her, and would definitely recommend ALL OVER THE PLACE to anyone who love a Exciting, Drama-Filled, World win Adventure, with Fantastic Characters and a HEA!!

Here is a little Sneak Peak...

After the third time, an American voice said, “You’re like an onion tonight.”

She turned and replied, without thinking, “That’s not the kind of vegetable I’d choose to be.”

The instant the words left her lips she knew it was all wrong. A mere second too late, it was blindingly obvious that he had said not onion, but yo–yo. How could she possibly have imagined that anyone would randomly liken her to an onion? Now, as she looked up at tanned skin, dark eyes, glossy hair, and teeth that could only be from across the Atlantic, her heart beat out of sync. She took in distressed jeans, vintage polo shirt, and a battered leather satchel hanging from his shoulder.

Suddenly she was unsteady on her feet, not just because the train was lurching unevenly. Looking at his face, perplexed and amused, she willed the floor to open up and drop her on the tracks. She would rather be electrocuted on the line than be a late–night crazy person on the Underground under his perfectly proportioned scrutiny. But there was nowhere to escape until the next stop, so she stood, cheeks flaming, praying he would take pity on her and pretend he hadn’t heard anything.

Instead, he said thoughtfully, “No, if you were a vegetable it would be something much more delicious. Sweet corn…cherry tomato, maybe.”

Was he flirting? She chanced another glance. A rugged sweep of stubble and a scar on his jaw roughened his looks, only making him more compelling. Well, of course, she thought, anyone who looks like that must flirt for a living. But suddenly she was uncomfortably aware of the harsh lights, and how tired she must look. She ran her hand through her hair, though she knew it wouldn’t make any difference. “That’s a nice thing to say,” was all she could think of to reply.

“My mom always said, you know, if you can’t say anything nice…she was English, she liked good manners. Plus, it’s important to say nice things to nice girls, don’t you think?” And he gave her a wink.

She couldn’t help laughing, he was so shameless. “How come you can get away with being so cheeky just because you do it in that accent?”

“You tell me,” he replied. “I don’t think you spring from round here either.”

Just then the train began to slow again, and there was a surge as people started to squeeze along to the doors. The American put his arms out and made a protective space around her, shaking his head. “Oh, no. You can stay here this time. I’m not letting you go until I solve this mystery.”

Up close he smelled warm and woody and clean, and she had to stop herself leaning in, eyes closed, and breathing deeply. At this distance he could probably hear her heart pounding. His full mouth turned up at the corners, a permanently tempting curve. Her hips threatened to arc towards him in a very inappropriate way. She wouldn’t have been surprised at the crackle of blue sparks. If she actually made contact with any part of him, she felt, there was a real chance she would just burst into flames.

Then the doors closed and the train started moving, and he grabbed the overhead strap to steady himself. “Maybe that was my stop,” she said, heady from their closeness. “Then what would I have done?”

“Come for a drink with me?”

She was enjoying this now, feeling a glow, forgetting her embarrassment, and her sore feet and backache from standing in the salon all day. “At this time of night, unless you want to go clubbing, I don’t know where you’d find somewhere to just have a drink. This isn’t LA or New York.”

“I’m not from LA or New York, I’m from Idaho.” He looked at her closely. “And maybe I didn’t mean somewhere.”

“Ah,” she said, and suddenly felt a little flat. That’s right, she knew this story. Off she would go to his place, with him and his charm and banter. They’d have a night that seemed unbelievable. And the next day it would be unbelievable, unbelievably awkward, as she pulled on yesterday’s clothes and tried to find her way to an unfamiliar tube station, with unbrushed hair and uncleaned teeth. The walk of shame. She had no interest in taking it. There was a time, when she’d first arrived, maybe…but not any more.

Her change of mood must have shown. He said, “I’m sorry, maybe that’s not something you should say to a nice girl from…?”

Looking at his expectant, handsome face, she gave herself an internal shake. Lighten up now, she said to herself, he’s just a guy on a train, even if he does look like he stepped out of a catalogue. Just enjoy that someone, maybe, fancies you a little. And she pushed her shoulders back and put her smile back on.

“Actually, I was born here, but I’ve been living a long way away. Further away than you.”

His face lit up. “Australia!”

“No, sorry to disappoint you.” Why was Australia always the first guess? Anyone would think there was no populated land beyond Sydney. Next stop Antarctica.

“Well then…damn, this is my stop.” They lurched together as the train made a last jolt, and his satchel banged against her hip. All at once she was aware of the crush of other travellers again, as they began their relentless move towards the door. The American was carried along in front of two large ladies, but called over their shoulders, “We could try to find somewhere.”

She hesitated for a moment, not wanting him to be gone. Then, just as the two of them realised his bag buckle had caught on hers, the large ladies swept him out and the doors closed. They looked at each other through the glass, his expression going through a progression from confusion to surprise to a sort of panic. And she was left holding his bag as the train pulled away.

Sometimes the life you planned isn’t the one you get to live. Sometimes the pain of the past overshadows the future. And sometimes to start over you have to go back to where it all began. That’s how it was for Joe Masters. That’s how he ended up back in New Hope. And that’s why he was in his thirties and had nothing to show for his life. He needed a complete overhaul, just like his father’s old house. Instead of a fast track, he had slowed down and was on a ten year plan. These days that was more his speed. And as much as he tried to fight the inevitable, he was learning to accept and surrender.

Martha had weathered her fair share of storms in Vermont, was accustomed to the cold, both the chill in the air and the cold shoulder in her marriage, but after the miscarriage she felt like she would never get warm again. So she did the research from the laptop while sitting in front of the fireplace. She knew what she needed when she Googled hope, she just never imagined that it would bring her to New Hope, South Carolina. She never imagined that her husband would trick her into leaving and never follow. She never imagined that a southern storm with all its force and fury could be so destructive. But after the storm, the land is washed clean. It’s perfect for a fresh start, a clean slate, and a new love.

This is my first book by Nicole Andrews Moore and I am certain that it will not be my last.  The emotional roller coaster ride she just took me on was wild and I am not sure that at this moment, my heart can take anymore...Really Nicole...You are leaving us like this?

All I have to say is...Who knew a Red-headed Hero could be so sexy?  What I like about Joe is that he makes no excuses for himself, he is who he is, he doesn't try and sugar coat anything and if you don't like it...well...there's the door.  But when he is around Marti, he just turns to mush...those were the moments I liked best...when we could read his thoughts about the way he feels with her.

Marti...well Marti is a heroine we can all stand behind.  She grew a lot throughout the book, and I enjoyed when she finally told Blaine to SHOVE IT!!  I just hope that Marti doesn't get her heart even more broken than it had been in the past....especially with that CRAZY cliffhanger that we are left with...WHAT?  I was thinking the ball would drop, but I wasn't expecting THAT!

I am sincerely excited to see where Nicole takes this series.  There are many characters to build on and I think New Hope could be next Virgin River.  So all of you Robyn Carr fans, give Nicole Andrews Moore a read...I think you will find her writing charming and addicting!

Get writing Nicole....we need more New Hope!!

May I just say that Eliza Daly absolutely SPARKLES with UNDER HER SPELL!  A Dazzling Romantic Comedy that will have you smiling long after the last page is read.

First, let me say...I Luvvvvvvvvvvvvvvv me some Reed Walker ....Hulloooooooooooo!!  He wasn't your typical tortured hero, he was just a bit, let's say, "stung" in the love department after watching his mother struggle as a single parent while his father had load of cash.  Plus he is a Divorce Lawyer, so yeah...he is not all about the LOVE!  But, he is still a hunky sexy man, that I was WILD about, the second he stepped onto the page!

Monica was quirky, funny and super-sweet, except when it came to Reed....Boy did he know what buttons to push with her...or...the fact that if he occupied her lips with his, they got along JUST FINE!!  Monica reminded me a bit of myself, a TRUE ROMANTIC, with flowers and rainbows, and everyone gets a HEA...I think that's why I liked her so much!

Monica and Reed's relationship simmered slowly and then..BAM....FULL BOIL and it was SOOOOOOOOO GOOD!  Their chemistry was off the charts in and out of the bedroom, which is always a favorite of mine, when the characters have those great heated discussions, but really they just want to jump each others bones!

The secondary cast brings about more humor, especially Hope, she just made me laugh.  I must say, that if you are a fan of the movie "Simply Irresistible" you will absolutely love, UNDER HER SPELL!

Don't forget to leave a comment to be entered to win a $20.00 Amazon/B&N Gift Card.  In keeping with the "SPELL" theme, let's talk favorite "WITCH" or "SPELL FOR LOVE" Book, Movie or TV Show?

Emma Woodhouse and Mr. Knightley won the literary world’s heart 200 years ago when Jane Austen first penned the story of their friendship-turned-love.  Emma is the young, rich, beautiful heroine with too much time on her hands and an overactive imagination; Mr. Knightley is her long-suffering friend who is always trying to steer her in the right direction.
Their love story is one of deep, dedicated affection blooming into passion.  But what about all of that sexual tension that crackles in the subtext?  In this Wild and Wanton edition of Austen’s classic, Emma and Mr. Knightley burn up the pages as they give in to their baser natures.  Discover the sexy scenes that readers of Emma have been imagining between Austen’s lines since 1815.

Sneak Peak

She was his own Emma, by hand and word.
He made a noise that seemed to emanate from deep within his chest, and the light kisses he had been gifting her with continued to travel up from her wrist to her inner forearm, to the hallow of her elbow at which point she completely forgot how to breathe.
He began to talk again, his breath caressing her skin as completely as his lips had seconds ago.  “You have made me a very happy man, my Emma.”  He punctuated the endearment with another kiss to her upper arm.  “I had dared not to hope—” a kiss to her cloth-covered shoulder “—dared not to dream.”
His words trailed off as he pressed an open-mouth kiss to her collarbone.  She felt the sweep of something velvety and wet, and her body jolted as she realised it was his tongue.  She heard herself make a noise, and heard him echo it.
“I am forgetting myself, dearest,” he said hoarsely into the patch of damp skin.  “Remind me,” he begged.  “Remind me of how I should behave.”
Her Mr. Knightley, Emma thought with exultation, always so concerned with how one should behave.  Emma was entirely uninterested in proper behaviour at this moment. “Not yet,” she whispered into his hair, the scent of the garden and sunshine greeting her as she rested her cheek against his head.  “Please not yet.”
He groaned and his kisses moved to the hallow of her throat.  “Your wish, my lady.”

As this was my First Time reading EMMA, yes, I did say my First Time (Huge Pride and Prejudice Fan over here) I have to say that I think EVERYONE needs to read Micah Persell's edition...I believe it wouldn't be as boring, and would hold your interest a bit more.
From page one, I found myself falling into the poetic prose, how the words just seemed to flow one into another, and I can tell you the truth, if I didn't know that the "Naughty Bits" weren't in the original, I wouldn't have been able to tell where Austen left off and Persell took over.  The speech and language used by Persell was impeccable, truly amazingly written.
The story for me, if reading it without the "extra action" was a bit boring, nothing against Jane Austen, but I think the best parts were the ones where Micah added a little "spice" to the story, a little groping her and there never hurt anyone.  Two pages in and I already needed a fan!
Austen fans, I would recommend this "Wild & Wanton" edition to all of you.  I know that there are SO MANY adaptions to Austen's works and it gets tiresome, but the way this story flows and the naturalness of the editions to the story make it such a realistic encounter that I was truly blown away.  I am so glad that I lost my "Emma V-Card" to EMMA: THE WILD AND WANTON EDITION.

Meet Micah & Jane
Jane Austen is one of the most beloved authors of all time.  She never married, and as far as we know, she died a virgin.  More’s the pity.

Micah Persell is the award-winning author of the paranormal romance series Operation: Middle of the Garden.  She holds a bachelor’s degree in English and a double master’s degree in English pedagogy and literature, and she found particular delight in driving her professors to madness by imagining the characters’ salacious untold stories during class discussions of “serious literature.”  She is beyond thrilled that the object of her professors’ horror is now her profession.
