Meet Amalie

There's never been a day without stories playing in my head. But now when someone interrupts my daydreams to ask what I'm doing I get to say: Working!

I live with my family and a passel of critters in rural southern Ohio, in the rolling foothills of the Appalachian mountains,  on a cleared spot of land plopped in the middle of national forest.  Everywhere I look it's either hills with trees or fields with cows. If you had a view like that, you'd spend lots of time watching the people inside your head too.

I'm lying--I do that--the area is beautiful, the air is clean and fresh if you count out those gassy cows, and the people are nice. Plus, the Great Serpent Mound is within easy driving distance if I ever feel the need to visit mysterious places--and really, who doesn't feel that need sometimes?

When not cow watching, mysterious place visiting, or writing, I love to read, watch movies, make stuff with my hands, and geek-out over documentaries. Any documentary. Even the ones with subjects I have absolutely no desire to learn about prior to discovering there is a documentary about it... I think it must be some kind of Geeky Syndrome which I shall one day try to have diagnosed and named after me.

I also like to learn various antiquated(yet awesome) skills. In case of Zombiepocalypse, I'll still have bread, cheese, jam, lacy under-things(I love tatting!), granulated sugar, fluffy marshmallows and I'll always have something new to read. Carbs 1 -- Zombies 0!

“Senorita, you really should be resting, not drinking. You need a clear head for tomorrow.” Mateo—once mozo de espada to Antonio, now Conchita’s—gave her what had to be the twentieth warning glance in the last hour.



It was becoming harder and harder to ignore him.



“A few shots of tequila never hurt anyone,” Conchita shot back and punctuated her statement by throwing her head back and downing another small glass of the scorching amber liquid.



“Ah. But a few shots of tequila and a pitcher of beer…” Her assistant wrinkled his nose and shook his head. “Liquid courage may help you now, but it will not help you tomorrow when you are in that arena facing the most feared bull in Mexico.”



Conchita hated that her friend and mozo could see right through her, and she hated even more that he was right. But she’d be damned if she let him know that.



“Just go. I’ll be leaving in a few minutes. The hotel is not far. I don’t need a chaperone.”



The man hesitated, his hands perched on the edge of the bar, his butt half off the seat. “Are you sure? You promise you are leaving soon? It is already ten p.m. You should get a full night’s rest—”



“God!” Conchita interrupted, slamming her empty shot glass on the bar. “Don’t mother me, Mateo. I’ll be fine. I’ve fought more bulls than I can even remember right now. What’s another one?”



“The streets this late at night—”



“Are fine,” Conchita stated with a warning note in her voice. “If I can fight bulls, I can fight men. They are nearly one and the same. Horny fuckers.”



Mateo blinked in surprise and his lips twitched at one corner, but he rose from his seat. “Till tomorrow morning then. Ten a.m.”



Conchita felt bad for being so harsh with him. In an industry that showed her very little respect, he had been good to her, had stood by her patiently for three years. She’d never regretted hiring him after Antonio’s death and he didn’t deserve her attitude. She needed to get her head on straight and focus her bad attitude where it belonged: on the bull.



“Yep. Ten. I’m leaving soon. I promise,” she said, then added, “Goodnight, Mateo.”



“Buenas noches, Conchita.”



He doffed his baseball cap, nodded one last time, and was gone.



Conchita watched him go, vowed to finish the half mug of beer still in front of her, and then she would leave. She knew better than to overindulge the night before a fight, but she could hold her liquor as well as any man and her nerves were strung tight. No, liquid courage wouldn’t get her far tomorrow, but it would help her sleep tonight.



In the absence of her friend, she became more aware of her surroundings: the tinkle of glasses as the bartenders shuffled, grabbed, and washed them, giggles from women in the corner as they eyed the men playing pool, the sound of balls hitting balls, voices from the men at the other end of the bar.



“I bet you a hundred pesos she loses,” one man said.



“I don’t know. Revenge is a strong motive. He killed her papa and her lover.”



Conchita spewed beer all over the counter in front of her. Her lover? What tabloid had they been reading? Dios!



“Matadoras don’t have lovers. They are all lesbians. They want to be men!” a third man declared drunkenly.



It was a battle not to turn and look at the men having this discussion, but Conchita forced herself to be still. She caught the bartender’s eye as he approached her, a white rag in hand.



The conversation continued, but she feigned disinterest.



“I heard Asesino had to be pulled off a cow, tasered and roped and drugged. His amorousness knows no bounds,” man number two’s voice came again.



His amigos chuckled as though that was the funniest thing they’d ever heard.



Conchita gestured for another pitcher of beer, wanting an excuse to stay and listen to the men’s conversation.



“An amorous bull is a fierce bull!”



“His cock was this long!”



More laughter.



Conchita cast a sidelong glance at the men and her eyes widened at how far the speaker held his palms apart. Did he really think it was that long?



“But you see,” man number one said, leaning forward as though he had a secret, “he is full of testosterone and missing his cow bitches. Now that he’s had a taste of cow cooch, he’ll be dying to get back there, bursting with sexual frustration, and this will make him vicious. He will kill her right away!”



The bartender placed the pitcher in front of her and Conchita quickly poured herself a mug, downing it as quickly as she could as the man’s words roiled with the yeast in her belly.



“Jorge, you saw him today, didn’t you? Didn’t you see the bull?”



“Si! Si! I saw him arrive yesterday. He’s in the barn! Massive, fierce, angry! The poor matadora. Let’s hope she’s been practicing.”



Conchita gulped, swallowing more beer as she did so. And she continued to drink and listen, drink and listen, as she clutched the red sachet under her shirt.



“Two hundred pesos says she defeats him.”



Gracias a Dios! At least someone had faith in her.



“No, no,” another man protested. “One hundred pesos says his cock is this big!”



Conchita summoned the bartender for a shot of tequila.

I was thrilled to be able to read CHASING MORGAN, since the relationship between Tyler and Morgan "haunted" me throughout the first three books of the HUNTED Series by Jennifer Ryan.  From the beginning, I have thought Tyler was going to be fun to watch, ya know...FALL....but it was even better than expected. 

 

Morgan is friggin awesome, she is a nurturer, caretaker and she hold the burden of the world on her shoulders, but she never puts herself first, which is a quality to be admired, and I was happy to see that Tyler finally crawled out of his ASS and figured it out!

 

The suspense was exciting, never knowing what was going to happen next, and that is one thing I truly enjoyed about CHASING MORGAN, that I had NO IDEA what was coming next.  I will say that there is a bit of "Head Hopping" between characters POV's, which in the beginning was slightly confusing, but eventually you get used to it, and just go with the flow. 

 

I am so happy that Tyler and Morgan go their HEA, but you will have to read the book to find out HOW it happens...Worth the read.  CHASING MORGAN was more than I expected and far more than JUST a romance, it was a Page Turner!

Oh Peggy, how you always have a way of making me fall in love with your heroes, especially when they don't make the BEST first impression, as Jake happens to accomplish in BELIEVING AGAIN.  He is going to have a tough time getting Danny to surrender, but it was certainly fun to watch!

 

Not only do we get a romance with BELIEVING AGAIN, but Peggy shines light on a huge issue that our Veterans face when they come home from war, and they have trouble returning to their everyday life.  What happens to the ones who have no family? or home to return to?  It's a sad issue and I was happy that Peggy took the time to acknowledge these men and women who are forgotten.

 

As always with a Peggy Bird romance, the heroine is feisty, the hero a bit broody and boy do we get some Very Sparkly Fireworks!  Pick it up today!!

I loved Danni. She was a funny, quirky and relatable. The fact that the book was set in England was great.  I did not get some of the references but it did not drag me from the story.  Breaking out of your comfort zone to reach for the dream of having it all is a great storyline.
 

The story itself reads like a memoir with dialog. Showing only Danni’s point of view. Which was really good because it distracted you that she was having an affair with a married man. I was glad that she was conflicted about the whole thing and that she could not help falling in love with him because their love was too great. Sleeping is the wife’s bed I did not enjoy.
 

In some places, I was saying, “what was he thinking” so it would have been nice to know what Oliver’s deal was. I found it difficult to justify a man cheating on his wife. If he was that unhappy leave, don’t stay until something better comes around. It made me not like him as much as I should.
 

I really liked when she left with Rod. It was relatable, a quick hot fling with a handsome ski instructor, no better way to get over a boring life.
 

It also served as the rebound to clear way to find her true love in Oliver.
 

Oliver and Danni had real chemistry it was easy to see way they were drawn together. The ups and down of their relationship made for a real roller coaster ride.
 

The additional storyline of the best friend dying added an emotional pull to the book as a whole and pulled it all together nicely.

I found this story to by very intriguing. The male point of view was new for me. I really enjoyed it. I will look for more story lines in this style.

Adam came off as a real jerk even from is own point of view. I didn’t care if he found love or romance. His escapes at the beginning certainly lived up to his bad boy reputation. He had some serious demons to work through. Although it all came pretty fast, it was a great story line and really held my interest.

The fact that Kathryn is the one who has the erotic tastes in this relationship was a nice change of pace to the usual boy millionaire with kinky tendencies. The fact she didn’t spend the whole book blushing at his sexual advances was amazing. She was sophisticated and sexy and an equal in the relationship.

I would have loved to know more about the practice of Tantra. In comparison to the many books out there that explore other sexual practices did not give enough in detail. We only got a little glimpse of it. It was a new concept and was hoping to see more. What I did was hot and sensual and would love to see in future books.

Adam changed his bad boy behavior way to fast, literally overnight and with no slips ups. Kathryn was so trusting. Considering how smart she was I thought she should have been more cautious.

Even though I had some issues, the single, male point of view, I loved. The storyline was new and fresh, the chemistry between Kathryn and Adam was smoking and exploring Tantra had me hooked.

I enjoyed the book and would recommend it and I’m looking forward to the next book in the series.

Another winner for The Cupcake Lovers Series.  Not only can you enjoy the main couple, but the secondary characters always bring some Wise Words and a Bit of Comic Relief to the story.  I LOVE this town of Sugar Creek!

Rae comes back to Sugar Creek to make a few things right with the Town, the Cupcake lovers and Luke.  Oh boy...this is where things get fun!  I don't want to give anything away, but I will tell you that if you have enjoyed reading the Cupcake Lovers as much as I have, you will LOVE Luke and Rae's story, and you will be CHEERING the loudest for things to work out between them.  Oh, and I am hoping cousin Sam is next on the list for romance, maybe with a certain PR person, named Harper Day....hummmmmmmmmm.  I so enjoyed their sexy flirtation...Rambo...hahaha!
